Bluewater species is what I target on 98% of my trips. With the yellowfin tuna being the most sought after species. There is a host of other species to target while offshore from the king of the Gulf, the mighty blue marlin, to the lightning fast wahoo or the colorful and great eating dolphin or mahi mahi.
All of theses species can be targeted the same way; by live baiting with hardtails (bluerunners) on the up-current side of offshore oilrigs. We will be utilizing a full range of tackle from Shimano ranging from Torsa’s, Stellas, Spheros and Tiagra 16’s, 30W’s and 50W’s. Another form of fishing is using the same live baits fished off of kites. This style of fishing gives the most intense strikes you have ever seen.
I offer two different types of trips with the day trips centered on live baiting and kite fishing. While the overnight trips are more chunking, using live flying fish, and throwing topwater lures on light spinning gear to crashing yellowfin. If the bluewater fishing is not your thing then there are numerous rigs that hold snapper and grouper. The other species that live around the shallower rigs are the mangrove snapper and the cobia.
